Sumo Wrestling

Sumo wrestling is a traditional Japanese form of competitive wrestling where two opponents, known as rikishi, face off in a circular ring called a dohyō. The objective of the sport is to force the opponent out of the ring or to make any part of their body, other than the soles of their feet, touch the ground. Competitors wear a mawashi, a thick belt, and employ various techniques including shoving, throwing, and grappling. Sumo is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, with rituals and ceremonies that highlight its historical significance, often linked to Shinto practices. Matches are typically brief but highly strategic, relying on both strength and technique.
